Operating System

NOTE

All Insight Agent installations require administrator privileges for the target system. The Insight Agent currently only supports x86 platforms running Intel or AMD chipsets.

The Insight Agent is supported on the following operating systems:

Windows

The Insight Agent is supported on desktop and server versions of the Windows operating system while those versions are in mainstream or extended support from Microsoft. For more information on Microsoft Lifecycle policies, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/general-lifecycle.

Additional Windows Requirements

If you are installing the Insight Agent on Windows assets for use with InsightIDR or InsightOps, make sure that the event log is enabled on your assets. You can refer to our InsightIDR event sources documentation for more information.

Mac

  • macOS 10.13 High Sierra
  • macOS 10.14 Mojave
  • macOS 10.15 Catalina
  • macOS 11.0 Big Sur (Intel devices only)

Linux

We support all versions of Linux associated with the following distributions as long as they are in mainstream or long-term support by their vendors.

  • Debian
  • CentOS
  • Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Ubuntu
  • Fedora
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop
  • openSUSE LEAP
  • Amazon Linux 1
  • Amazon Linux 2

Additional Linux Requirements

If you are installing the Insight Agent on Linux assets for use with InsightIDR, note that the auditd service must be present on your assets, but disabled.

Why disable auditd?

InsightIDR must have exclusive use of the auditd service in order to successfully run the agent.job.linux.ui_realtime job. To ensure this job runs properly, auditd needs to be installed, but also disabled.

If your organization requires that auditd be enabled at all times, see the auditd Compatibility Mode for Linux Assets Help page for instructions on how to ensure that both the agent and auditd services can run together.
