If you’re an existing Automation (InsightConnect) customer who is planning to transition to the InsightGovCloud environment, it’s important to understand that the FedRAMP offering operates as a completely separate and isolated system from the commercial Automation (InsightConnect) platform. This separation is required to meet strict federal security and compliance standards.

As a result, direct data transfers or seamless integration between your commercial Automation (InsightConnect) instance and the InsightGovCloud environment are not supported.

It is advised that you retain your commercial Automation (InsightConnect) instance while you apply your settings across to the new InsightGovCloud instance.

To transition successfully to Automation (InsightConnect) in InsightGovCloud, you’ll need to complete a two-step process involving reinstallation and configuration.

Task 1: Install the Rapid 7 Orchestrator (Insight Orchestrator)

The Rapid7 Orchestrator (Insight Orchestrator), which is the core component that connects your on-premises systems to Automation (InsightConnect), must be installed in your InsightGovCloud environment.

The version that is available within the InsightGovCloud Automation application is a FIPS-compliant version. The FIPS-certified Orchestrator ensures that all cryptographic operations align with U.S. federal standards.

Existing commercial Rapid7 Orchestrators are not compliant

Rapid7 InsightGovCloud requires a FIPS-compliant orchestrator in order to meet the benchmarks for FedRAMP compliance. Using your existing commercial Orchestrator or any non-FIPS version will not meet FedRAMP requirements and will not be compatible with the InsightGovCloud environment.

To install the Orchestrator:

  1. Log in to the InsightGovCloud Command Platform and select Automation.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Orchestrators.
  3. Click Install Orchestrator. For help with the rest of the process, follow the steps in the Orchestrator documentation .

Task 2: Reconfigure all workflows

All workflows that exist in your commercial Automation (InsightConnect) deployment must be recreated and reconfigured in the InsightGovCloud environment. There is no automatic migration or import capability due to platform isolation and compliance constraints.
