Agent Logs

The agent.log file is located in your Rapid7 Agent (Insight Agent) installation directory. The following directories are default installation locations by operating system:

• Agent Logs
  • Windows
  • Mac and Linux
• Enable enhanced logging
• Agent service is present, but won’t start
• Inconsistent assessment results on virtual assets

Windows

C:\Program Files\Rapid7\Insight Agent\components\insight_agent\common

Mac and Linux

/opt/rapid7/ir_agent/components/insight_agent/common

Enable enhanced logging

Agent logs can be enhanced for debugging purposes if necessary. Make the following changes to enable enhanced logging:

1. Browse to and open the config.json file in your agent installation directory.
2. Find and replace all instances of INFO with DEBUG.
3. Save and close the file.
4. Restart the Rapid7 Agent (Insight Agent) service.
