Activate AppSpider Pro using a Product Key

When you first run AppSpider Pro after installation, you will be asked to enter your Product Key. If you have dismissed this popup, you can use the following steps to activate your product. Note that an internet connection is required to activate AppSpider Pro with a product key. If your system is not connected to the internet, follow the instructions in the section Activate AppSpider Pro using a License Key.

  1. Click Help in the AppSpider Pro menu bar and select License. The "License Information" screen will appear.
  1. Click the Update License button. The "Enter License" window will appear.
  1. Select the tab with the title "Using a Product Key". Enter the product key that you have received in the activation email and click the Update button.

If your system does not have an internet connection, you can activate it using a License Key. You can obtain the license key from the Rapid7 Support team by providing the reference code of your AppSpider Pro installation.

Retrieve the Reference Code from AppSpider Pro

A reference code is a unique set of numbers that identifies a system. It is generated based on the hardware and software. You can use the following steps to obtain the reference code from Appspider Pro:

  1. Click Help in the AppSpider Pro menu bar and select License. The "License Information" screen will appear.
  2. Click the Update License button. The "Enter License" window will appear.
  3. Select the tab with the title "Using a License Key". Copy the value in the "Reference Code" field.

Provide this reference code to the Rapid7 support team along with your company name, email address, and product key to obtain the license key. You can enter the license key in the "Using a License Key" tab to activate the product.

Your AppSpider Pro license is tied to the system hardware, whether physical or virtual. This means that if your AppSpider Pro instance is on a virtual machine, the RAM, MAC address, system board and such should not be changed. If it does, AppSpider Pro will require being re-licensed.

Move an AppSpider license to a new system

If a license for AppSpider Pro needs to be moved, then the process is straightforward if you haven’t already uninstalled AppSpider. If you have already uninstalled it, Rapid7 support will need to reset your product key or use a reference code. If you haven’t, then the process is the following:

  1. Install AppSpider on a new system.
  2. Retrieve the reference code from the new target system.
  3. Go into the currently licensed AppSpider. Click Help in the AppSpider Pro menu bar and select License. The "License Information" screen will appear.
  4. Click the Export License button. A new window will pop up with a blank text field called "Reference Code".
  5. Paste the reference code retrieved from the target system in Step 2.
  1. Click Export. The Exported License Key window will appear.
  1. Copy the license key that is generated and use it to activate the new target system.
  2. The original system will now have an invalid license. The new system will have a good valid license.
